There were elections held in the United States of America in the latter half of 2016 and we all know that there were two major candidates in the election namely Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Now, it is also famously known that Donald Trump won the elections while Hillary Clinton was considered to be the favorite.
After that, there have been many revelations regarding the elections in the US and the major revelation is that the election campaigns were rigged by Russian hackers. It is now clear that Russia wanted Donald Trump to come into power and thus ordered their hackers to ruin the Hillary Clinton campaign.
Now, one more details regarding the Hillary Clinton campaign is emerging out of the US which involves the hacking as well. Specifically, it is now understood that the hackers from Russia used cryptocurrency in order to attack the Clinton campaign. Now, you would wonder how the cryptocurrency was used to rig the attack.
The hackers used the cryptocurrency in order to make payments to websites which released and publicized stolen election-related documents. By using cryptocurrency, they were able to keep their identities hidden in order to not get caught.
Also, this attack was bigger than we would have initially thought as the hackers also registered a domain named dcleaks.com. After that, they used a virtual private server also called as VPN from an online cryptocurrency service to carry out the transactions. Apart from that, they used URL-shorteners in order to hide the identity of their website to a certain extent in order to ruin the credibility of Clinton campaign chairman and other members of the campaign.
Also, it has been found out that the site, which we mentioned earlier, was running till March 2017 after which it shut down and it gained page views in excess of 1 million since the day it was created.
