WhatsApp is mulling to share users’ information with its parent company Facebook. But, the move was not welcomed by its vast range of users.
Recently a survey was conducted around Whatsapp’s new proposed privacy policy. Respondents to this Survey was 17,000 users of WhatsApp across India.
Social media giant Facebook wants to launch WhatsApp Pay using UPI, like Google Pay, PhonePe in India. But, they also wanted to integrate the payment system with Facebook. For that they wanted to share users data with Facebook and its partners. That is why they desperately wants to change the privacy policy.
If the users want to use WhatsApp, they required to accept the new terms and policy by February 8, 2021. However, the the company postponed the update until May. It is because, they are receiving huge criticism regarding its new privacy policy and terms of service, from all quarters.
According to the survey, nearly 5 per cent of them uninstalled WhatsApp from their smartphone. Another 22 per cent of them reduced their use of WhatsApp as they believe they have lost their privacy.
Around 92 per cent of respondents said they would not use the WhatsApp payment features if the app shares their information with Facebook and third parties.
About 79 per cent of respondents to this survey said they are unlikely to use WhatsApp Business accounts if the messaging app chooses to implement the policy in May.
According to the survey, 55 per cent of them have already downloaded other alternatives, but only 21 per cent are active users.
Signal and Telegram are the most popular alternative to WhatsApp as many users have already moved to these messaging platforms. Since, WhatsApp has indicated its policy change, these two apps have got new users.
According to another survey conducted by BM Nxt, almost 72 per cent of users are willing to move to other messaging platforms.
