India will move to 5G very soon. In six months of time, we will see 5G advertisements across every media platform from top to bottom.
Before that, there are only two private players are going to face each other in the battle of capturing the 5G market in India. They are none other than Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel.
As per the recent development, Department of Telecommunications gave the nod to 5G services in India, though it is still in the earlier stage.
Just Six months to go!
Also, the telecom operators have to give six months prior notice to launch their 5G services. It seems both Airtel and Jio are aggressive in launching 5G at first in India as well as at better speed and quality than each other.
Airtel – One step ahead
Both of them have completed the initial testing. Airtel went one step ahead and demonstrated a live 5G network recently in Hyderabad. And Airtel is confident that it will start offering 5G internet services once the government give approval.
“We can start offering 5G services as soon as we get approvals from the government. We just need to flip the switch now,” Airtel CEO Gopal Vittal said.
Speed war
Airtel said they can provide 5G at 10x speeds, 10x latency, 10x concurrency compared to 4G network. Importantly Airtel claims they can deliver 3Gbps speed with 5G. But, Jio only managed to get 1Gbps during initial testing. This is where both Airtel and Jio could clash to capture the 5G market in India.
Interestingly, during the live demonstration of 5G network in Hyderabad the users were able to download a full movie in a matter of seconds. At present, users had nothing to do with an internet speed like 1Gbps, but when 5G rolls on, technically the internet usage in India will reach a new dimension and users may complain that 1Gbps speed won’t be enough for doing many things.
