Did you also ever thought of paying less for your Netflix subscription and watching a couple of ads instead? Well, Netflix is now planning to charge less than before and will make you watch a couple of unskippable ads. According to a Bloomberg report, Netflix will charge between $7 to $9 for its upcoming ad-supported plan.
Netflix’s current plans in the United States are, $9.99 per month for 480p streaming, it also charges a $15.49 per month plan for 1080p streaming, and a $19.99 per month plan for 4K streaming. Its current lowest plan in the States is the 480p streaming plan which costs around $9.99 per month. For those who are looking for a cheaper plan than the 480p plan then you are going to get to watch ads along with your content.
Netflix is planning to include approximately four minutes of advertising per one hour of streaming. The duration of These ads is way shorter than the ads which the local cable companies show for the duration of one hour. Obviously, these ads are going to be non-skippable ads but Netflix is making sure that ads are not too repetitive because they can affect the consumer’s streaming experience. So the ad targeting will be limited and monitored. These ads will be shown before and during TV shows and movies.
According to reports, the newer plan will not support the download and watch system which used to be in Netflix’s cheaper plan as well, Now it is only going to be in the expensive plans other than the ad-supported plan. With the ad-supported plan, consumers will have more restrictions compared to expensive tiers. So no more offline viewing with this cheaper plan.
The reason Netflix has started this plan is that it hasn’t been able to maintain its subscriber count lately. Netflix lost subscribers for the first time in ten years in the first quarter of 2022, and accused “a large number of households sharing accounts” and “competition.”
