OnePlus has been hotly anticipated to launch a new 5G prototype smartphone at the MWC 2019. As expected, OnePlus did showcase their 5G prototype smartphone to the world. This smartphone was displayed at the conference running OnePlus software with full 5G support. However, the smartphone was not kept out in open and was covered from all sides. This meant that OnePlus wanted to hide the design of the 5G smartphone which was showcased. Now, we can speculate that this could be the OnePlus 7 which will be launching soon.
However, we now have an official confirmation regarding the upcoming OnePlus 7. A statement has been put out by the OnePlus CEO regarding their upcoming flagship phone. This statement was given by OnePlus CEO Pete Lau in an interview with CNet. In the interview, OnePlus CEO mentioned that OnePlus 7 will not have wireless charging support. Now, we already know that OnePlus’ flagship phones are already feature-packed in every way possible. But there is one feature missing from OnePlus flagships until now which is Wireless Charging.
We do know that OnePlus has one of the fastest charging speeds in the industry due to its Warp Charge(earlier named as Dash Charge). The reason given by Pete Lau is that wireless charging is very slow currently and that OnePlus’ fast charging is much faster. However, Pete Lau also mentions that OnePlus’ future flagships might still have wireless charging.
OnePlus CEO says that they are working on accelerating wireless charging to get similar speeds as their Dash Charge. Pete also mentioned that the main hurdle in accelerating wireless charging is the heating up of phones. This means that there is still a lot of work to be done on wireless charging technology. Recently, Qualcomm announced Quick Wireless Charging technology as well. We could well see OnePlus’ wireless charging standard similar to Warp Charge too.
