Oppo patents foldable phone with pop-up camera to remove notch

It is a fact that the foldable phone technology seems to have taken a hit after what happened to Samsung’s Galaxy Fold. We know that Huawei also showcased their Mate X but Huawei is in trouble with Android which they might be busy in. Apart from Samsung and Huawei, Xiaomi also showcased its foldable phone but there is no development in that story too.

However, we have not seen foldable smartphones from two of the biggest names in the Chinese smartphone industry, Oppo and Vivo. Both these companies have not revealed anything regarding their foldable smartphones.

However, that does not mean the company is not working on them. Because we now have a patent filed by Oppo which reveals its design for a foldable smartphone. Oppo has already been thinking about removing the notch from foldable phones. And for this reason, the company has filed a patent which reveals pop-up selfie camera on this foldable smartphone.

As we know already, pop-up selfie cameras are now seen on smartphones from Oppo, Vivo and OnePlus. However, all these smartphones are not foldable ones so their mechanism is fairly easy to do. However, Oppo now showcases how a foldable smartphone can have a pop-up selfie camera.

Looking at the patent design by Oppo, we can see the pop-up selfie camera mechanism on one side of the fold. This means that if you want to use the selfie camera, you will have to unfold the smartphone to tablet mode. When you want to use the camera as a rear one, you can fold it and use it as one.

The only problem we see here is that you cannot use the entire tablet-like screen to click photos from the back. Because the camera will be facing towards you when the display is in tablet mode.
