The Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 is the processor that will be at the bottom of next year flagship platforms, and some of them could be even folding phones. The Snapdragon 855 was presented by Qualcomm in early December. The processor will be used by all manufacturers who want to bring a relevant flagship to market in 2019. Most likely, the first will be Samsung’s, with the Galaxy S10, but others will follow.
About the Snapdragon 855 specifications I have already written, and all this information can be found here. The processor brings improvements in several areas, and the most important innovations seem to be related to 5G. Qualcomm has not talked about this in the presentation since launch, but their processor “knows” how it works when it comes to folding phones.
According to The Gadget Wire, Keith Kressin, Vice President of Qualcomm, is the one who confirmed this information. “We are ready for foldable phones. If a manufacturer wants to launch a smartphone of this kind with the Snapdragon 855, it’s welcome, “he said.
Thus, it seems that the Snapdragon 855 needs only a few small adjustments to be compatible with foldable phones. These changes relate to how the manufacturer wants the phone to fold. We already know that there are concepts of foldable phones both inside and out. Each works differently, so the processor needs to know what it has to do.
Samsung is one of the manufacturers who want to launch a foldable phone in the near future. They have already presented a demonstration of the screen that can be folded. They are not the only ones who want to do this, but so the future of such phones seems promising.
