You must have seen that Robots are just machines which do the job that you tell them to. This means that it is generally not a good idea if you stand in front of their way. Because they will do their job and it does not matter if there is someone standing in their route. Often times, this has led to injuries in factories where robots are used. Therefore, it is advised to not be an obstacle while robots are working and also be attentive while robots are there.
Although we know that robots are coded in a way that they avoid obstacles, it often leads to injuries at the least. Now, we have a new chip which will make Robots “imagine” before they take actions. Realtime Robotics has found out a way with which Robots will not harm you even if you are in their way. Instead, they will be able to imagine just like humans and take a different route.
In a video released by them, a person can be seen putting an arm in front of the robots who are moving things from one place to others. As the person moves his arm in front of the robot, it stops. Later, when the arm is placed in the middle then the robots take a different route by bending to avoid the person’s outstretched arm.
The chip we are talking about was developed with a simple motion-planning algorithm which was developed by Konidaris at the Duke University along with others. This chip can perform 10,000+ times more quickly than the regular computer chips and uses less power too.
George Konidaris, Founder and Chief Roboticist at Realtime says that “The fundamental challenge is that robots are so stupid, We have this basic motor competence and robots don’t.” He says that this is the major challenge related to Robots
