Samsung is gearing up to launch Samsung Galaxy X foldable smartphone before the end of 2017. With several months left for the official launch, the design-related details have been leaked on the web. Dubbed as Samsung Galaxy X, the company is reportedly planning to manufacture a huge quantity of prototypes (around 100,000 units) in Q3 2017. We infer that the prototype units will be tested under extreme conditions to make sure that the technology being implemented is fault proof.
Moreover, the prototypes will be circulated among a select group of technology enthusiasts to gauge their feedback. The main purpose of the prototype units will be to verify the accuracy of the display in addition to quality.
Based on the reports from developers, designers, and reviewers, the company will move ahead to mass produce the Samsung Galaxy X handset with estimated release date set to the end of December 2017. Samsung could also push the release date to February at MWC 2018.
Possible showcase of Samsung Galaxy X at IFA 2017
According to sources, Samsung is expected to showcase prototype samples at IFA 2017 in Berlin. Even though Samsung usually introduces Galaxy Note handsets, we cannot rule out the possibility of display of a foldable smartphone. Based on the rumors, the Samsung Galaxy X will be integrated with an OLED foldable display and can be used as a 7-inch tablet when unfolded. Hence, you will be able to work with the device as both phone or a tablet.
Recently, Sammobile revealed the layout pictures sourced via a patent application filed by the company. You will be able to see all possible angles of the upcoming foldable smartphone.
LG also competing hard with Samsung Galaxy X
Meanwhile, LG is also planning to introduce foldable smartphones by the end of Q4 2017 with the production target set to 100,000 units. The company sources revealed that the display technology would be advanced than Samsung Galaxy X.
There are unconfirmed reports that LG has given orders for the display to Huawei. The chances of developing the display by Apple, as reported in few tech portals, are slim since the Cupertino-giant is not involved in the manufacturing of display.
On the specifications side, Samsung Galaxy X will feature a Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB RAM, 128GB storage, 16MP/8MP camera loaded with Android Nougat upgradeable to Oreo. You can also expect integration of a 4500mAh battery with fast charging support.
Be prepared to pay a huge price for the Samsung Galaxy X. We will continue to keep track and provide updates. Stay tuned with The Tech Hacker.
