Wi-Fi and their usage are not new to us now that we are in 2018 but it was very new two decades ago. The basic idea of using Wi-Fi is that you get a wireless connection by connecting just one cable to your router. Of course, you need to have a wireless card in your smartphones and PC/Laptops but it is present everywhere nowadays.
Therefore, the use of Wi-Fi is increasing day by day rather than having separate wired connections. One drawback of Wi-Fi was the aspect of security as anyone and everyone can log in to our system. For this, the security standard known as WPA was introduced which is basically setting a password to access our network.
Later, an upgraded mechanism to WPA named as WPA2 was released which was much more secure than WPA and it was not easy to hack. Now, it is time that we get introduced to the latest mechanism in Wi-Fi security named as WPA3. This is, obviously, an upgrade to WPA2 and is said to be much more secure than the previous versions. The Wi-Fi Alliance, a partnership of tech companies that plans out the protocol for Wi-Fi has announced that the protocol is now finalized and ready to be released.
More important is the fact that WPA3 protocol will be available for all the Wi-Fi Alliance certified routers. However, it depends on individual vendors if they want to upgrade their router to WPA3 or not so this protocol may take years to be seen on commercial routers.
As for the WPA3, the latest protocol will stop one of the most widespread and common hacking attack on Wi-Fi routers known as an offline dictionary-based attack. This is basically a method which allows hackers to guess endless passwords of the SSID with the help of software which will eventually help them gain access to the system.
