This AI system will design and create garments for you by knitting process

AI knitting technique

While you might have seen many things that you did manually now being done by robots, knitting clothes might not be one of them. However, we now know that robots have been developed which will be able to design and create garments for you. This robot will also come in handy when you need to create garments but your knitting skills are not up to par.

With the help of an AI system, robots will now be able to knit clothes for you. This research has been done by MIT Researchers for developing a computer-aided knitting system to automate the design and manufacturing of knitted garments. With the help of customizable templates, you will be able to knit clothes even if you don’t have the required skills.

These templates will be for common shapes such as hats or gloves which can be easily recreated with this system. If you are interested in customizing these templates further, you can do that as well. Alexander Kaspar says that “Whether it’s for the everyday user who wants to mimic a friend’s beanie hat or a subset of the public who might benefit from using this tool in a manufacturing setting, we’re aiming to make the process more accessible for personal customization,” who is the lead author of the paper

However, this system also raises the question of people’s knitting skills diminishing. Because the system will make it very easy to knit clothes that people will not bother to knit clothes on their own. Also, the tactile creativity of knitting by hand will also be somewhat missing. Waste elimination will also be a thing which the system might implement later say the researchers of this system. Now, this will make the system a replacement of the traditional knitting process as well as make it better due to the automation.
