Your PC shutdowns might get slower thanks to this Windows 10 USB-C bug

Windows 10

Windows 10

We have a new bug inside Windows which might affect the shutdown time of your PC. This bug was revealed by Microsoft itself in its Windows 10 1809 version. Basically, this bug is found in the Windows 10 update released late last year. This bug is called the USB Type-C connector system software interface bug.

Going into detail about this bug discovered by Microsoft, the company reveals that if and when you plug in or disconnect a USB Type-C device, it can either be a docking station or a charge or a device, the computer can take up to 60 seconds more than normal when it shuts down.

On recalling, I had faced a similar issue where the PC just wouldn’t shut down. But I thought that the PC was still reading files from a connected device and hence, it was taking time.

It turns out, however, that this is a bug related to USB Type-C devices. While rebooting, the shutdowns will be at normal speed if you do not perform any kind of behavior. However, Microsoft reassures that this bug does not have to do in any way with the performance of the device. It is just a bug related to connecting and disconnecting of the device, only during power down.

Two weeks ago seems to be the time when Microsoft engineers might have discovered this bug based on issue listed in Windows 10’s Feedback Hub. However, the weird thing is that Microsoft has not resolved this bug which seems like it is not resolvable.

Instead, you are recommended to not connect or disconnect a USB Type-C device while shutting down your PC for this bug to not get triggered. You can, however, connect or disconnect your device before or after shutdown. This means that you should not connect/disconnect your device and perform shutdown at the same time.
