Zoom video conferencing app might be a privacy disaster for employees

Zoom video conferencing

You must have heard that there is worldwide lockdown right now due to Coronavirus also known as COVID-19 and this is the reason why people are moving towards work-from-home since they can’t go outside but the work must go on. Therefore, those who are also accustomed to the fact that they need to do daily meetings in order to update about their work need to find an alternative. And that alternative is by the way of video conferencing which is the best way to stay connected even while being away from each other.

Now, the best video conferencing app right now is Zoom which has been around for years but has picked up steam right now by businesses all over the world. However, since everyone is working from home and using Zoom, it is to be noted that experts are finding loopholes inside the app. According to reports, the Zoom video conferencing app is said to be a privacy disaster waiting to happen. Now, there are some arguments made in this aspect as well which are valid to some extent.

For instance, there is a feature inside Zoom called “attendee attention tracking” which is a way to let the employers see and track their attendee’s attention. This is well and good for employers but it also means that employees have to be extremely vigilant since they are working from home and they also have their personal life which they might not want people to see.

Also, it is said that “Hosts can see an indicator in the participant panel of a meeting or webinar if an attendee does not have Zoom Desktop Client or Mobile App in focus for more than 30 seconds,”. This means that if you open up Twitter, any article or website during your call and attendance tracking is enabled then they will be notified about it.
