There are innovations and developments which are not so useful and then there are some which are groundbreaking. Now, we are going to tell you about newly developed contact lenses which come in the category of groundbreaking. This is because scientists have now developed contact lenses which can zoom on giving a command. Yes, the same zoom functionality that you see on your smartphones and cameras will now come right to your eyes as well.
Scientists have developed prototype contact lenses which zoom in and out according to your eye’s movement. For example, you blink twice and the contact lenses will zoom in so you can see the zoomed-in picture. If you blink twice once again, the contact lenses will zoom out to its original state. Therefore, you might not need binoculars or help of your smartphone to see things at a distance.
However, these contact lenses are currently in the prototype stage and they will need rigorous testing before making them available for the public. Nonetheless, this is a remarkable achievement and one that will help a lot of people. The prototype contact lenses are known to have been developed by scientists at the University of California, San Diego.
We also have some details regarding how these contact lenses actually work. First of all, these biometric lenses are made of stretchy polymer films. They can detect and respond to the electric signals generated by our eyes like the movement of blinking. These electric signals are known as electrooculographic signals and they are even generated when we move our eyes while sleeping.
But as we mentioned above, these are still prototype lenses and they will take a lot of time to be tested. It is also reported that they currently work in a special rig and test subjects had electrodes around their eyes while testing them.
