Google is known for their software as they are maintaining Android for all the devices around the world and providing updates every year as well. However, we know that the company has been trying to master its hardware division as well. First, they started with the Nexus devices that were made in partnership with Google and OEMs.
Now, Google makes its own Pixel devices in-house with very little help from outside if at all. During the Nexus period, Google said that they don’t have control over hardware but now that they have it, their phones are still not better.
And this is mostly because of the hardware decisions that the company takes. Now, we are getting reports that the Pixel 5 is going to be a downgrade over the Pixel 4 series from last year. This is because Google is shifting to mid-range smartphones and the Pixel 5 will have an upper mid-range chipset. This chip is most likely to be Snapdragon 765G which has 5G support as well.
However, the problem with going from the Snapdragon 800 series to the Snapdragon 700 series is that the phone is bound to get slower. And we are hearing that the same will take place with the Pixel 5 over the Pixel 4 too. It is said that early comparisons have shown that the Pixel 5 is slower than the Pixel 4 and it is not looking good for Google.
We do understand that the price of Pixel 5 will be lower than the Pixel 4 but how much lower is not known yet. And if the difference is $100 or something similar than people will start to question why they should buy a slower phone for a similar price. One thing to remember, though, is that the Google Pixel 4 series has already been discontinued so you might not be able to buy those phones even if you wanted.
