There have been multiple occasions were Apple has claimed that Android is less secure than iOS. In fact, Apple reportedly says that Android is the least secure operating system out there. While Google has been fighting on these claims by Apple, we know that Android is less secure to iOS. However, that does not mean iOS cannot be broken but it is much more difficult to do so.
Talking about Android, one of the things that makes it less secure are the apps present on the platform. We know that Android is open-source which means anyone and everyone can develop Android apps as well as entire Android skins. This means that we see reports every day that a new malware has been found. For this reason, Google has even started to release Android security patches every month. While this has made Android much more secure, there are still some issues.
In the recent round of applications getting removed from Play Store, Google removed 85 Android applications. This is after the company got reports that these applications are nothing but adware. Basically, adware is an application or software that serves the purpose of showing ads and have no other purpose at all. These apps were disguised as legitimate software but they didn’t perform its functions at all. Once the user installed these apps and opened them, they would be shown full-screen ads and nothing else.
The apps were are talking about have been found in the category of photography and gaming. You must have seen apps that have ads in them which are under the limit. However, these apps showed ads almost 95% of the time which is not allowed at all under Google Play Store guidelines. Moreover, this adware made uninstallation difficult by creating a home screen shortcut and hiding its icon. On top of that, ads are shown whenever the user unlocks the phone and not only inside the app.
