Google Renames NotebookLM: Meet Gemini Notebook

Google Renames NotebookLM, Meet Gemini Notebook

Google has rebranded NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook, while maintaining its position as a standalone AI-powered research tool. This rebranding supports broader integration with the Google ecosystem, specifically the Gemini app and Google Search.

Background on NotebookLM

Initially introduced as Project Tailwind during Google I/O 2023, NotebookLM aimed to assist users in learning through their own sources. According to Google, over 30 million users and more than 600,000 organizations have utilized this tool for purposes such as:

  • Creating interactive onboarding resources
  • Converting notes into audio and video summaries

Cloud Computer Integration

Google is rolling out an update that introduces a secure cloud computer capability to every Gemini Notebook. This addition allows users to write and execute code within the notebooks, thus facilitating detailed data analysis directly from source materials. The cloud computer functionality supports:

  • Running code and scripts inside notebooks
  • Conducting complex data analysis
  • Expanding output formats for deeper insights

Integration with Google Services

The Gemini Notebook is broadening its reach across Google services while keeping its standalone status. Users can now access and create notebooks effortlessly within the Gemini app, enjoying seamless cross-app syncing. Moreover, notebooks will be available in AI Mode within Google Search, enhancing the user experience during search interactions.

Availability

The new secure cloud computer feature is presently offered to:

  • Google AI Ultra users
  • Workspace business customers with AI Ultra Access
  • Workspace business customers with AI Expanded Access

Google plans to extend this feature to all Pro users on the web in the upcoming weeks.
