One ISP in UK is testing a SIM card which forces all your mobile data through Tor browser

Most of us who have a strong presence online are aware of the fact that there are mass surveillance and mobile filtering campaigns running on the internet. It is a common saying that you are constantly being watched by someone or the other on the Internet. Also, all our activities are being tracked. Now, there have been plenty of petitions, lawsuits and appeals against this but it is somewhat necessary as well.

However, someone has to take a step to stop this surveillance. We are getting reports that a UK based Internet Service Provider is testing a new data-only SIM Card. Now, the interesting aspect about this SIM Card is that it routes all our traffic through TOR browser. If you have never heard about Tor then it is a browser which hides all our information such as location, device etc.

Therefore, a website owner or an organization would know that someone has visited them from Tor but no specifics can be found. Therefore, this data-only SIM Card from UK’s ISP blocks any traffic coming from non-Tor browsers.

Moreover, this ISP is a non-profit internet service provider with a focus on privacy and anti-surveillance services named as Brass Horn Communications. Gareth Llewelyn who is the founder of Brass Horn Communications said that “This is about sticking a middle finger up to mobile filtering, mass surveillance,“. One of the requirements for this SIM Card is that you need to have Orbot browser running on your Android device.

Apart from that, it is also told by the ISP that users need to create a new Access Point Name also known as APN. This way, all your activities will be hidden and no one will be able to know your whereabouts. The only thing that they can know is that you are visiting them from Tor browser from somewhere in the world.
