We have been contemplating what the future holds for smartphones. There are various inventions in the recent past related to the smartphone industry. We have seen foldable smartphones, dual screen smartphones as well as various other form factors. However, we should also discuss the material which will be seen on smartphones in the future. Currently, we are seeing more and more smartphone come out with glass back. Previously, there was a trend of using metal at the back of the smartphone which eventually died.
Prior to that, smartphones were mostly made out of plastic. And it must be said that phones made out of plastic were the most durable. However, they were not looking premium so it was eventually scrapped in favour of glass. But we have seen that glass is extremely fragile and it has the maximum chances of breaking on drops. There is also the fact that glass or metal phones tend to heat up a lot. This is true while performing heavy tasks, or gaming or even when used in extremely hot conditions.
Therefore, MIT Researchers have found a new way which can replace glass on the back of smartphones. This is a polymer which will be customized so that heating issues are solved. This custom polymer material will dissipate heat rather than cooling it down so that heating is never an issue anymore. This will mean that you can use your smartphones without worrying about it heating.
To add to that, Polymer is said to be cheaper than glass or metal so it can be a cost-effective solution as well. However, Polymer is found to be more fragile which is a concern. Nonetheless, we might see our first smartphone made out of Polymer soon and see if it turns out to be the game-changing material for smartphones in future.
