Apple has released the latest smartphone in its iPhone lineup which is the iPhone 11 series. We have seen that the iPhone 11 series consists of iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. But we are also waiting to see the iPhone 12 series already which is supposed to be a big leap forward for Apple. One of the biggest reasons being that the iPhone 12 series will come with 5G support. Many were expecting the iPhone 11 series to have 5G support but due to minimal 5G coverage, concerns of current lot of 5G modems and other factors, Apple decided not to implement it this year.
Nonetheless, 5G is supposed to be the main selling point for smartphones next year. Since most of the Android devices and the iPhones are supposed to support 5G from next year, we also expect the coverage of 5G networks to increase. Talking about 5G, there were reports about Apple developing its own 5G chip as it acquired Intel’s 5G business. But we also understand that developing a 5G modem can’t be done in a matter of year or two. And the latest report from Apple insiders suggests that next year’s 5G iPhones won’t have Apple-developed chips.
Instead, we will see the 5G modems from Apple’s biggest rival which is Qualcomm. But this report also reveals a very exciting development for next year’s iPhones. As you might be aware, Apple’s iPhone chips beat Qualcomm’s latest chips hands down. But Apple is not stopping there as the next year’s iPhones will have a 5nm chip instead of the current 7nm A13 chip. The 5nm chip will be Apple’s A14 chip and it is supposed to be much faster than Qualcomm’s latest offering. Apart from that, the iPhone 12 series is expected to have a 120Hz refresh rate display as seen on iPad Pro 2018.
