Although we know that security in this day and age is a myth, people believe that iOS is more secure than Android. Now, this can also be true because there are much less hacks on iOS than on Android. Also, the data security on Apple devices is controlled by Apple itself so it is supposed to be better.
However, we now have a new report from a security research company called Cellebrite. According to this company, any and every iOS device in this world can be hacked.
Apple recently announced that there is a total of 1.4 billion iOS devices around the world. So this means that 1.4 billion people’s iPhones, iPads and other iOS devices are vulnerable. What makes Cellebrite’s claim credible is the fact that even the FBI has partnered with them. Back in the day when Apple refused to support the FBI in cracking an accused’s iPhone, FBI took Cellebrite’s help in doing so.
Obviously, the FBI was able to get into the accused’s iPhone which means Cellebrite was able to hack it. This also shows that Cellebrite has found a backdoor to get into users’ iPhones. However, the worrying part is that Cellebrite has announced that it will sell the tool used to hack someone’s iOS devices.
Some users say that Cellebrite’s previous kit was sold on eBay for as low as $100 or Rs. 7000 which means that it is affordable for a company or even an individual looking to make some inroads in the industry. As of now, the tool from Cellebrite is not available but we assume that it will be available soon.
But all is not bad for your iOS devices as this tool can only be effective when the iOS devices are physically available. Also, it requires some authentication that the device that you are trying to access belongs to you.
