You must be of the understanding that one of the best ways to avoid privacy concerns and blocking by the regulators is to use a VPN. A VPN or virtual private network lets you browse the web anonymously and you might be sitting at one place but your location might be some random place elsewhere using a VPN.
To re-iterate our first point, a VPN is definitely the best way to browse the web without having privacy concerns. However, we are here to report that VPNs have come under attack as well. Therefore, you might want to avoid using these VPNs to browse the internet.
We are talking about two VPNs named Fortigate SSL and Pulse Secure SSL. It is revealed that both of these VPNs have been hit by hacks. Five security vulnerabilities were discovered during an assessment by researchers at the Devcore group. Since then, Chinese hackers named ATP5 have targeted these services from the found vulnerabilities.
According to the vulnerabilities found by Devcore, it was possible “for hackers to steal and change passwords remotely”. Apart from that, Devcore also found out that over 14,500 vulnerable endpoints were belonging to Pulse Secure. A vulnerable endpoint can be seen as an entry or a door which is open for hackers to get inside and do whatever they want. This can also be termed as a loophole in general terms.
It is revealed that the ATP5 group has taken advantage of the weaknesses in the VPN systems by scanning for vulnerable servers. But it’s not known for certain whether they have succeeded.
Having said that, the danger is still there because both the services mentioned above are very popular and used by millions. Therefore, even a small lapse in security can affect millions at the same time. Right now, it would be better that you stop using these services until the issues have been fixed.
