Apple is known for its production quality as well as design and performance in all of their products. However, Apple’s iPhones are claimed as the best smartphones in the market every year. However, Apple might have been hiding something from the entire world all this time. As we know, Apple does not mention battery specifications of any of its products be it iPhone, Mac or iPad. The company just reveals what the expected battery life you will get based on their test results.
But if a report from UK Research Which? is to be believed, Apple has been overstating those battery time claims. Which? is a UK Advocacy group similar to Consumer Reports in the US. They conduct researches and analysis of various tech products around the world. Which? decided to see why the iPhones have a weaker battery life then what Apple claims.
So Which? decided to conduct tests on 9 of the latest iPhones from Apple. To their surprise, all of the 9 iPhones fell short on Apple’s claimed battery life. However, the more interesting part was that the claims were off by more than 50%. Which? says that Apple overstated the battery time claims ranging from 18% up to 51%.
Which? also says that Apple is the only company which was found to be overstating its battery claims. As the researchers also tested phones from HTC, Sony and the likes. In their tests, HTC’s phones were found to be just 5% shy of their claimed battery life. However, Sony overstated their battery life claims by 21%.
Which? reveals that last year’s iPhone XR was also found to be infringing by a massive margin. Apple claims that iPhone XR should give you a talk time of 25 hours on a single charge. However, Which? tested this claim and found out that iPhone Xr only gives talk time of 16 hours and 32 minutes on a single charge.
