Apple has caught some fresh trouble to itself in New York. This case is related to an arrest of New York teen who has now sued Apple for a sum of $1 Billion.
Talking about the case in detail, a New York teenager named Ousmane Bah visited Apple Store last year. However, he was arrested in November 2018 on the charges of stealing from an Apple Store.
Completely surprised by this incident, Ousmane Bah claimed that he has never stolen anything from any of the Apple Stores.
However, it was later found out that the Apple in-store facial recognition feature was to be blamed for this incident. The system incorrectly recognized’s Ousmane Bah’s face as that of one of the theives.
Nonetheless, Ousmane Bah now says that “he was forced to respond to multiple false allegations which led to severe stress and hardship” which is true as well. Due to this, he has gone through various types of issues as well.
In his defense, Bah says that he lost his non-photo learner’s permit. This, according to him, must have been used by thieves for giving wrong identity of themselves.
Now, you will be surprised to know that it is not uncommon for theft in Apple Stores, especially in the US. This is the reason why Apple has set up facial recognition systems in all its stores.
All said and done, it is definitely true that Apple has to be blamed for this incident. The company’s facial recognition failed and caused a lot of trouble for the teenager.
Thus, Bah’s claim of getting a compensation is definitely justified and Apple might also not hesitate in giving him his dues. But we also understand that $1 Billion is too much and the claims will be reduced by great extent once the trials are started. Also, there has been no comment as of yet from Apple on this matter.
